Canine Obedience Training

Unlike the majority of canine obedience training services in Ireland, Scot’s K9 Obedience Training takes a unique, communication-based approach to obedience training. We understand dog psychology, and use this to train you and your dog how to communicate better with one another. We will teach you reward-based, non-violent communication techniques that will establish you as your dogs’ “pack leader” and address any obedience problems that your canine is having.

How We Approach Canine Obedience Training

I travel to your house I give a 2 hour intensive training session the first command is the stay command this is the most effective command that you will use everywhere. when I'm happy your dog is staying for me for you your partner and teenage children we will then teach him to respond to a dog whistle, when he responds to the sound of the Whistle in the house he gets a delicious treat and everything I do is reward-based there's no pain. We will then take him out for a walk we will teach him to heel for about 15 minutes we will go to your nearest green or park. We will let him relax for about 5 minutes because it's quite intensive for them. I will put him on a 60ft training line, this allows freedom but total safety we will continue with the stay command but I will combine it with the recall with a dog whistle. I will provide dog whistles for the duration, we will form a triangle or a square and we will have him running from one of your family to the other until I'm happy he understands what the whistle means. When I'm happy he's responding to your commands we will walk home on heel back to your house where we will finish with discussion on rules and boundaries within the house. I also include visual commands as part of the program. for example when you want your dog to stay you put your hand outstretched in the vertical position fingers closed like a Garda stopping you at a checkpoint the visual command is more powerful than your verbal command it all comes back to tone of voice and body language.

You should only need one training session as I will give you the tools to carry on his training.
